We finally had a chance to test one of the routes for the Charity Crossing! Although it was due to be held to mark World Cancer Day last February, the local authorities did not favour the crossing until the conditions improved.

I have been busy training and preparing for our Evoikos Channel charity crossing. Unfortunately, due to the very bad weather conditions over the past 3 weeks, we didn’t get the authorization to cross as we had hoped on the 4th of Feb.
That said, the weather did clear up on Saturday for the afternoon. We had very strong South winds which turned the -2C from the cold front into a very mild 14C almost overnight! We were happy to use these conditions for training, but we need North winds to cross from Marmari (Evia) to Loutsa. Anyway- it was the first day of clear weather in weeks so the team met in Loutsa early morning for a great training session.

As you might have read, GKF is helping to organize a very challenging crossing to raise funds and awareness for 3 charities… you can read more about it on our projects page.
I’m very excited to be taking part in it- not just as a co-organizer, but also as a participant! I am a little nervous too, of course! I haven’t been in a wetsuit for many, many years- I’m not very good with the cold! But that’s the purpose of a challenge: it’s to push your ‘normal’ to the side for a good cause.
Bye bye high heels, hello booties!

So… the purpose of my note this week is to bring you up to date on how I am getting ready for this! And if you have any suggestions or advice to give, please do!
